Understanding the Format of the CUET Exam

The Common University Entrance Test commonly known as the CUET, is a standardized entrance examination conducted for admission to undergraduate programs in various universities. The CUET Exam Format may vary slightly depending on the university, but it generally consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and is divided into different sections. The exam aims to evaluate the candidate’s proficiency in different subjects.

CUET Exam Format and Marking Scheme

Exam Duration

The exam usually has multiple tests taken in slots. Each test/subject is of 45 minutes [60 minutes in the case of the General Test] 

Sections/Subjects

The entrance test often consists of multiple sections or subjects. The subjects included in the exam are typically those that are related to the field of study or program the student is applying for. Common sections/subjects may include mathematics, English language, social sciences, and general knowledge. The other section includes questions from the domain subject that are relevant to the program or field of study.

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

MCQs are a common format used in university entrance tests. In the CUET Exam Format, a question is followed by a list of options, and the student is required to choose the correct answer from the given options. The number of options can vary, but it is usually four.

Marking scheme

To answer a question, the candidates need to choose one option corresponding to the correct answer or the most appropriate answer. Answers are addressed in the following manner.

 i. Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)

 ii. Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1). 

iii. Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).

iv. If more than one option is found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.

v. If all options are found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
