Will NEET merge with CUET in 2024?
The merger of NEET with CUET in 2024 is an important question in the minds of those who are appearing for the same. For clarity, we can say that there is no official plan to merge NEET with CUET in 2024; the National Testing Agency and the University Grants Commission have not made any announcements regarding the merger of the two prestigious exams!
The idea regarding the merging of these two has already been put forth, and it is only fair to say that there are several challenges that need to be addressed before taking this idea any further. In fact, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, has stated that there is no immediate plan to merge these exams in 2024.
Two main issues that are to be addressed are:
- NEET is conducted in a subject-specific manner, which simply means that it is conducted for courses related to a particular field, and on the other hand, CUET is a general exam that gives access to a lot of fields and courses. Merging these two examinations would require a lot of significant changes in their formats and content along the way.
- Along with that, another issue is that NEET is used for admissions to medical and dental colleges, and CUET is used for admissions to general central universities across the country for several courses as well. This simply means that merging these two exams will require a lot of effort from a lot of educational bodies across the country, and that will also take a significant amount of time.
These are the issues that need to be looked at before finalizing the merger, which makes it clear that the merger will not happen in 2024. It is definitely possible for it to come into play in the future, as it holds potential, but it might take a few years to ensure a smooth transition.
